"In a 100-page study, three renowned American experts concerned themselves with the planned future defense of Swiss airspace. The study was done for the SP. The authors conclude that the strategy of the Federal Council for air defense is not appropriate for future threats: Switzerland is forced by the reality of military warfare 'to fundamentally restructure and rethink the plans for its air defense,' according to the analysis. A strong ground-based air defense system with capable radar is much more effective than a fleet of modern fighter jets. Accordingly, Switzerland could, in regard to the current plans, save 20 to 50 percent of procurement costs..."
